Up through Shillong and east along the highway to the lakeside at Thadlaskein, just short of Jowai. A quiet evening by the water.

Monoliths and a blue pool

Morning among the hundreds of standing stones at Nartiang, about 40 minutes away. Afternoon at Krang Suri, a waterfall pouring into a pool of astonishing blue, half an hour from Jowai, with time to swim.

The Umngot at Shnongpdeng
Thadlaskein to Shnongpdeng, Dawki and Shillong · Drive: 2 hours, then 2.5 hours
South to Shnongpdeng, where the Umngot runs so clear the boats seem to hang in the air. Kayak, swim or just float, then a look at Dawki before the climb to Shillong.
