Guwahati airport to the city: time, distance and getting a cab

The short answer

Guwahati airport is at Borjhar, about 20 to 25 km from Paltan Bazaar and the city centre. The drive takes 45 minutes to an hour, and up to an hour and a half at evening peak. A pre-booked cab with a fixed fare is the simplest way in.

Where the airport is

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is on the western edge of Guwahati, at Borjhar. The road into the city runs along NH 27 and through Jalukbari.

How long it takes

Outside rush hour, 45 minutes to an hour to Paltan Bazaar, Fancy Bazaar or Dispur. Evening traffic, especially between 5 and 8 PM, can add half an hour. Allow more for Kamakhya or Six Mile.

Getting a cab

You can take a prepaid taxi at the airport or book an app cab, which can surge at peak times. A pre-booked cab with a fixed fare means the price is settled before you land and the driver is waiting when you come out.

Smarto runs electric cabs at fixed fares with no surge pricing, and follows your flight, so a delay does not leave you stranded.
